Breaking: Nikki Haley Out As UN Ambassador

Huge news that Nikki Haley has just resigned as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and that President Donald Trump has accepted her resignation.

It is not clear why she has resigned at this time.

Haley was one of the most well-respected figures in the administration and was seen as a very strong advocate for American positions at the United Nations.

From Fox News:

Haley had been a critic of Trump during the 2016 Republican primary campaign, but had emerged as a key figure in his administration as she pushed the administration’s policy goals on Iran, North Korea and other items of international cooperation. The former governor of South Carolina was confirmed as U.N. Ambassador four days after Trump was inaugurated in January 2017.

Haley was a fierce critic of U.N. mismanagement and bias against Israel and the U.S. She secured cuts to the U.S. contribution to the U.N. fund, and pulled the U.S. out of the U.N. Human Rights Council — calling it a “cesspool of political bias.”

She was very supportive of Trump and his foreign policy positions at the UN.

While she did not always agree with Trump, as she noted, she said that they had a relationship where she was free to disagree, that he wasn’t just looking for a ‘yes’ from her.

From Daily Caller:

Haley did, however, highlight the differences between her and the president in a Washington Post op-ed saying “I proudly serve in this administration, and I enthusiastically support most of its decisions and the direction it is taking the country. But I don’t agree with the president on everything. When there is disagreement, there is a right way and a wrong way to address it. I pick up the phone and call him or meet with him in person.”

Axios said that she had discussed her resignation with Trump last week and that some foreign policy officials were shocked by her decision.

People immediately weighed in on how much they were going to miss her strong hand at the UN.
