During the days leading up to Trump’s Tuesday night speech on immigration, the mainstream media was going on and on about how Trump was going to lie and about how they would be “fact checking” his speech. You could tell they were disappointed when you watched the coverage afterwards. Everything Trump said was on point and the “fact checking” couldn’t have been more pathetic. Basically, the mainstream media was forced to resort to lying about Trump’s speech.
Here’s what MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough had to say.
That’s simply not true and a simple Google search would tell you that.
There are several studies that suggest the opposite is true.
Many immigration advocates argue that immigrants have much lower crime rates than natives (see this op-ed and this paper). As my colleague Jessica Vaughan and I pointed in a paper some years ago, however, the picture is far from clear. While there are other issues, the biggest problem with studying immigrant crime is that states and localities do not systematically track the country of birth, citizenship, or legal status of those they arrest, convict, or incarcerate. But the federal government does track the citizenship of those it convicts. New data from the U.S. Sentencing Commission shows that of those convicted of federal crimes between 2011 and 2016, 44.2 percent were not U.S. citizens — 21.4 percent, if immigration crimes are excluded. In comparison, non-citizens are 8.4 percent of the adult population. Of this 8.4 percent, about 4 percent are illegal immigrants and about 4 percent are legal immigrants.
That data suggests non-citizens commit over twice the amount of crime relative to their population.
DACA-aged illegals commit crimes at twice the rate of young Americans, says a comprehensive summary of crimes and convictions in Arizona during the past 32 years.
The report punctures claims by pro-amnesty advocates that young ‘dreamer’ illegals are vital to U.S. industry and civic life, and indicate that any amnesty will ensure that many more crimes — including murders and rapes — will be inflicted against Americans and legal immigrants, including Hispanics and blacks.
The report says:
Unfortunately, if the goal of DACA is to give citizenship to a particularly law-abiding group of undocumented immigrants, it is accomplishing the opposite of what was intended. As Table 8 shows, DACA age eligible undocumented immigrants are 250% more likely to be convicted of crimes than their share of the population. Those too old for DACA status are convicted at a relatively low rates (45.7% more than their share of the Arizona population).
So no. “All research” does not back up Scarborough’s claim.
No is demonizing immigrants. You do a disservice to the country by ignoring the very real threat that illegal immigration poses.
Thousands of Americans aren’t here anymore because they were killed by people with no legal right to be here. Literally thousands.
In a fact check by Breitbart News, Trump’s statement proves correct. Former congressman Tom Tancredo noted in 2017 how, between 2011 and 2017 in Texas, alone, there were 1,167 homicide charges against illegal aliens.
Other immigration reformers cite a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report in which they say the research reveals about 12 Americans a day are killed by illegal aliens, though the findings have been challenged by researchers. Immigration reformers have been frustrated for decades by the federal government’s lack of fully quantified data on the number of Americans killed every year by illegal aliens.
Americans have a very clear choice. They can side with a president who understands the immigration issue or they can side with Democrats who don’t care about the thousands of Americans who have been killed by illegal aliens or killed by the drug trade that flows across our unsecured border.
