An investigation conducted by a private investigations firm on behalf of the Covington Diocese has reached its final conclusion after looking into the viral incident that involved the Covington Catholic High School students and Native American Nathan Phillips.
The conclusion backed up the students version of the events and said they did not instigate the confrontation.
From The Hill:
Greater Cincinnati Investigations issued a report dated Feb. 11 that found no evidence that students from Covington Catholic made “offensive or racist” statements to either Black Hebrew Israelites or Native American tribe members gathered on the National Mall.
“The statements we obtained from students and chaperones are remarkably consistent,” the investigators said. “And, the statements are consistent with the videos we reviewed.”
They interviewed 43 students and 16 chaperones. They attempted to interview Nick Sandmann and Nathan Phillips but were unsuccessful. Sandmann pointed them to the formal statement he had already given which the firm said “appears to accurately reflect the facts surrounding the interaction between the students and the Black Hebrew Israelites.”
They made multiple attempts to interview Phillips but were unsuccessful. They noted that he had “inconsistencies” in his accounts but they were unable to clarify them because he didn’t talk to them.
The Bishop of the Covington Diocese, Roger Foys, welcomed the report as vindication of the students’ behavior, despite the diocese’s initial condemnation of the events.
“In truth, taking everything into account, our students were placed in a situation that was at once bizarre and even threatening,” Foys said in a statement. “Their reaction to the situation was, given the circumstances, expected and one might even say laudatory.”
Unfortunately, a bit late after the media and even the district had attacked the kids.
Here’s the letter the Bishop sent out to the parents.
And here’s a link to the full report.
Fortunately that means that the students wouldn’t face any further punishment from the school.
But for those on the left, the facts wouldn’t matter as this tweet shows.
