Ilhan Omar Says She Brings ‘Perspective of Foreigner’ to Foreign Policy, Check the Irony of Her Latest Proposal

WATCH: Dr. Qanta Ahmed believes Rep. Omar is a disgrace to Islam

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) says that she may look at things from a different perspective, as if that weren’t already apparent.

From Star Tribune:

The Somali-born Minnesota Democrat, saying she brings “the perspective of a foreigner” to her new role, believes that American foreign policy needs to be changed in fundamental ways.

“When I think about foreign policy, we need something equivalent to the Green New Deal,” Omar said in an interview, drawing a parallel to the sweeping climate change plan from New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, another high-profile member of the Democratic freshman class of 2018.

The problem of course when you are on the House Foreign Affairs Committee is that you are not supposed to look at things from the “perspective of a foreigner” but from the perspective of an American and what is the best for the United States of America, that’s supposed to be your first and preeminent charge.

She’s taken a contrary position to current U.S. policy on Venezuela, Iran and Israel, saying that our foreign policy needs to be overhauled (to her way of thinking) from “the standpoint of really thinking how it impacts those around the world, and where our values intersect with what’s happening.”

Omar is fond of calling President Donald Trump’s ‘travel ban’ on seven countries with which there are security and/or terrorist issues a “Muslim ban.”

Of course, this is silly since the countries include Venezuela and North Korea which are not Muslim countries and the Supreme Court upheld the ban, finding it wasn’t based upon religion but upon policy concerns. Not to mention that the ‘ban’ never applied to most of the Muslims in the word, including people from such Muslim majority countries as Indonesia and the like.

But, interestingly, if we were to use this type of logic from Omar, she herself just called for a “Muslim ban.”

She’s calling for a ban on people from Muslim-majority Brunei from coming into the United States because, according to Human Rights Watch, their penal code “requires death by stoning for extramarital sex and anal sex; amputation of limbs for stealing; and 40 lashes with a whip for lesbian sex. Abortion is also criminalized.”

Omar’s legislation would bar any official of the Muslim-majority southeast Asian nation who’s responsible for implementing the penal code from traveling to or doing business with the United States. “I think it was important for us to go beyond the normal resolutions people will do here,” Omar said. She’s lined up 13 House cosponsors, so far all Democrats.

So apparently some bans are more equal than others and not racist, even when they don’t necessarily place any Americans in danger. Ted Cruz is also working on similar legislation calling Brunei’s laws “immoral, barbaric & inhumane.”
