Not A Good Look: People Rip Pelosi’s Souvenir Impeachment Pens

Several people online are criticizing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her decision to hand out commemorative pens following the impeachment signing ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.

Pelosi signed the two articles of impeachment against President Trump—something she described as “solemn” and “somber”—before having them formally delivered to the Senate. The House Speaker then passed out the souvenir pens to each of her Democratic colleagues, causing a stir online.

Fox News reports:

Before the signing Wednesday, aides set out two small trays containing more than two dozen black pens emblazoned with Pelosi’s signature. She entered the room and sat at a table with the documents and pens before her. House prosecutors and the committee chairmen who had worked on Trump’s impeachment were standing around her. Pelosi picked up each pen, signed a bit, and handed each one to a lawmaker. Sometimes, she was smiling.

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham posted a photo of the pens online, tweeting: “Nancy Pelosi’s souvenir pens served up on silver platters to sign the sham articles of impeachment…She was so somber as she gave them away to people like prizes.”

Even CNN remarked Democrats celebrating impeachment with souvenir pens was not a good look, Twitchy reports.

During the CNN panel, BizPac Review reports CNN’s Dana Bash said: “We are used to seeing signing ceremonies handing out pens at moments of celebration when a president is signing the legislation, when even sometimes, and on rare occasion but it has happened when the House sends over a landmark piece of legislation.”

“It was unusual to see that kind of ceremony and handing out the pens and smiling for a picture in this kind of situation where the House speaker has bent over backward to say publicly and privately that this is somber, this is not a time for celebration,” she added.

CNN reporter Nia-Malika Henderson agreed, saying the ceremony and the pens were “off message.”

“I thought that was a little jarring and certainly off message, because you heard Nancy Pelosi say there that in fact, this was a sad and tragic day. And there she is holding up the pen and having photographs taken with those pens,” she said.

“So yeah, I think it was a little off message for somebody who’s tried to set a serious tone — and here she is posing for photographs with a pen.”

Several people online also complained about the look of the pens.

In a since-deleted tweet, Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo said that the top of the pens “look like bullet cases,” Twitchy reports. Check it out:
