Alabama State Rep. Rolanda Hollis introduced legislation that would require “every Alabama man to undergo a vasectomy within one month of his 50th birthday or the birth of his third biological child, whichever comes first.”
The Democrat from Birmingham filed the bill with the hope that it will “neutralize” abortion restrictions that may come from the state.
In 2019, passage by the state legislature of the Human Life Protection Act, which is a law that is currently making its way through the federal courts, bans abortion with very few exceptions.
The bill proposed by Hollis is called HB238 has no restrictions on the reproductive rights of men and requires men to pay for all expenses related to any medical procedures.
Sean Ross reported in Yellowhammer News that the bill awaits further deliberation in the Alabama House Judiciary Committee.
Hollis is known for this type of behavior as demonstrated in a 2019 Alabama abortion bill debate where she read the poem “If My Vagina was a Gun.”
