CNN did not break the story on Joe Biden accuser Tara Reade or her sexual assault allegations, instead choosing to sit on video evidence corroborating her claim until the Intercept and the Media Research Center unearthed it from their archives.

And they are paying the price.

The Daily Caller reports:

The network was slammed for its failure, especially after weeks of underreporting Reade’s allegation. CNN only published a story about the new unearthed video Saturday afternoon after facing criticism and following this Daily Caller report.

CNN briefly reported on the allegation weeks after it came out with an April 17 article framing the news as “Democrats grapple with questions about Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegation against Joe Biden.”

Responding to the controversy, Newsbusters managing editor Curtis Houck said it was “truly despicable” that CNN sat on the story.

“It’s truly despicable that this footage existed and yet CNN failed to do its own due diligence within its own archives,” he said.

The video made headlines on Saturday after it was unearthed as it points to a possible corroboration of Reade’s claims.

CNN had this video for decades.

During this time, Biden served as the U.S. Vice President from 2009 to 2017 and later ran (and won) the Democratic presidential primary.

The Daily Caller News Foundation reports Reade worked in Biden’s Senate office in 1993 but was forced out of her position after an alleged sexual assault incident took place in the back halls of the Capitol.

Reade reportedly told her mother about the incident who then called into CNN’s retired show “Larry King Live” asking “for advice about her daughter’s problems with a ‘prominent senator,’” the Daily Caller reports.

Reade told the Intercept about the call but could not provide any more details about when it may have occurred: “I remember it being an anonymous call and her saying my daughter was sexually harassed and retaliated against and fired, where can she go for help? I was mortified.”

That is, until a viewer listening to a podcast interview with the Intercept’s Ryan Grim and the woman who first aired Reade’s allegations, Katie Halper.

“After the podcast aired, a listener located the transcript of a call very similar to the one Reade had referenced. The transcript of the call was dated Aug. 11, 1993, the publication reported, noting that congressional records show that August 1993 was the last month of Reade’s employment with Biden’s Senate office,” the Daily Caller reports.
