Handfuls of high profile inmates are petitioning the courts for a compassionate or restricted release from prison due to the coronavirus, according to Fox News.

Criminal justice advocates have pushed for the release of non-violent offenders, in hopes to control the spread of the coronavirus in prisons throughout the nation.

In April, U.S. Attorney General William Barr said there would be more flexibility as to who is eligible for an early release.

However the Department of Justice issued a clarification, letting only those who have served more than 50 percent of their sentence or have 18 months or less remaining.

Among those pleading for an early release are:

MICHAEL AVENATTI
PAUL MANAFORT
MICHAEL COHEN
GILBERTO RODRIGUEZ-OREJUELA
WILLIAM MCFARLAND
VIKTORIYA NASYROVA
MARTIN SHKRELI
TEKASHI 6IX9INE
